Introduction


Nursing unit of national research institute of tuberculosis and lung disease (Masih Daneshvari Hospital) is located in the northern part of the hospital. It was established in 1963 and officially started its therapeutic activities in 1995. There are a total number of 253 personnel working as nurses, assistants, technicians and medication aides in clinical wards and paraclinical units of this hospital under the supervision of Mr. Asghar Bolhasani. Nursing staff comprises of head nurses (Masters’ degree in nursing), nurses (Bachelors’ degree in nursing), operating room technicians, anesthesia assistants, medication aides, midwives and secretaries.
These personnel work in clinical wards, paraclinical units (Echocardiography, bronchoscopy), patients’ training unit, infection control unit, dentistry, CSR, Health and family control unit and kindergarten.
Nursing activities are categorized into 4 fields of patient care, supportive, educational and research activities that are all directly supervised by the nursing unit and matron.
Nurses have to participate in educational and research activities as well as taking care of patients according to the nursing strategic programs. 

The nursing educational and research council comprises of the following committees:
1- Scientific educational committees: CCU, ICU, dialysis, transplant, operating room (OR), internal medicine, surgery, pediatric, emergency, oncology, TB and AIDS
2- Nursing publication committee
3- Nursing broadcasting network committee
4- Translation committee
5- Nursing research committee
Each of these committees has subgroups in which nurses are subscribed based on their interests and abilities.
Yearly evaluation of nursing personnel is another duty of nursing unit which is performed according to the "function evaluation form" of each ward, scores obtained in the yearly exams, professional duties and participation in committees.
Regular periodic courses are held during the year for different groups of nurses to increase their level of knowledge and professional expertise. Nursing unit has a representative in all of the hospital’s internal committees.  Nursing unit has held various national and regional nursing seminars during the recent years.
