TB and lung disease research center
Development of education, research and practical studies to upgrade the scientific level and control of TB, lung disease and MDR-TB, obtaining the latest findings and inventions, regional and international collaboration and cooperation in the aforementioned fields, obtaining advanced technology and using it for research purposes are of the goals of this center.
Some of the main objectives of this center are as follows:
- performing fundamental scientific researches in the field of TB and lung disease in the country, in the region
and internationally to improve the health care of the society
- classic training of medical and basic science students and graduates
- propagating experimental researches by holding educational, methodology and research management
workshops, implementing research projects in the regional countries by using WHO standard patterns
and guidelines and set priorities, publishing scientific and research journals and books
- holding seminars, conferences, congresses, and symposiums on latest developments and newest findings in
medicine in the mentioned fields
We have patients who are referred to this center from East Asian, Mediterranean and neighbor countries seeking
for medical care. Also, we have specialists from Ghafghaz and African countries that come to Masih Daneshvari
Hospital to participate in educational courses.
Deputy Director of NRITLD: Establishment of research centers play an important role in
development of science.
Dr. Mohammadreza Masjedi stated that “…By establishing research centers in the country, more credit would be given to
scientific researches, research funds will be well defined and researchers would be employed. For example, NRITLD is a
research center that started to work with only one researcher but at present has 55 faculty members and more than 120
physicians. Also, 4 other research centers have been established within it.” Dr. Masjedi believes that a research center
needs to have an annual activity list including a list of all proposals and research projects and presented articles. In this
way the research center will be dynamic and develop every year. This will result in scientific development of the
country in general.
Establishment of research centers has resulted in considerable scientific progress in our country during the recent years.
Iran has won the first place in terms of science production growth among the developing countries.
Establishment of research centers was a bill approved by the Cultural Revolution council but the ministry of health did not
enforce it till 1991.
When Dr. Fazel was serving as a minister, Dr .Zali who was the research deputy of the Ministry of Health formed a
committee to enforce this bill and establish research centers. At present there are more than 140 active research centers
under the supervision of Ministry of Health. Dr. Masjedi also stated that he has asked the research centers to set their
goals and find ways to reach them with adequate programming and effort although it may take years or even decades.
DR. Masjedi believes that the most important requirement of research centers is to train man power which is one of the
most difficult tasks that should be done in the country and he is trying to achieve it. He also stated that “NRITLD
research centers can be expanded and they are in close contact with IUATLD and one of the goals of this center
is to detect regional and international centers with the same objectives as ours, cooperate with them and gain
international success.
