Since 1997, the Project of Self-Reliance in Vaccine Production(SRVP) was proposed and approved by IDB after realizing the need of health care in Islamic Ummah.

Since the inception of the project, a number of  SRVP meetings have been held in Tunisia, Malaysia and Egypt which were attended by the authorities involved in vaccine production and other experts . The mandate of the meetings was to follow-up the issue of the implementation of SRVP project.
In accordance with the consensus made by IDB, it was agreed upon that all the vaccine producers submit their proposal for the development and production of new vaccine in the form of projects. The proposal was to be supported by IDB after approval.  Moreover, to improve the standards of vaccine production in Islamic world, IDB/STO jointly assented to organize scientific and technical workshops on specified subjects.
According to the meeting  of the vaccine producers that was held in 13-15 March,2004, in Tunisia, the importance of training and capacity building in the related countries was discussed and agreed that the specific Unit, Training Affairs Office, be established to follow this idea.
In line with this, Prof. Mohammad Reza Masjedi, Coordinator of IDB Training Affairs, and Dr. Amel Chouaib, Co-Coordinator of IDB Training Affairs were elected to coordinate and implement the program.
Thus, a number of Training Workshops were organized to improve the skills of the vaccine producers and to improve the quality of their production according to international standards.
In this regard, four Training Workshops on the main aspect of "Vaccine Validation" had been organized in Iran with the joint cooperation of TAO and Razi Vaccine & Serum Research Institute (RVSRI).
