He has been the representative of IUATLD in the Middle East region since 1997 and the secretary general of this union since 2004. He has been in this position for three consecutive years.
IUATLD is among the oldest international organizations in the field of lung diseases specially tuberculosis and at present is considered as one of the most important non-governmental organizations for the regulation of activities in relation to such diseases all over the world.
On the 26th assembly of IUATLD, Middle East region, which was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in March 2007, Iran was announced as the most active country in the field of lung disease control and Dr. Masjedi was commended for his utmost effort in this regard. Also, he was awarded a special medallion by the Ministry of Health and Pulmonary Society of Saudi Arabia.
At present, Dr. Mohammad Reza Masjedi is the deputy minister of NRITLD, Masih Daneshvari Hospital and the president of the Iranian Society for Tobacco Control
